I'm so excited about this design. It's not printed yet, but I wanted to show the process of inspiration to design. the regal and beautiful calla lily has been popping up everywhere for me. I am drawn to this flower's simplicity and tend to pick up pieces that somehow use this flower. i found a set of Mexican pine chairs at a garage sale about 10 years ago and they still have a prominent place in my home.
Also, love how my paper calla lilies, found at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago made this lovely shadow in my foyer.
love this photo from A Vision
and of course the paintings of diego rivera feature calla lilies prominently.
Then, a series of sketches to determine the layout:
Instead of printing on a pale blue paper, I decided to hand wash a grey-blue water color over the sheets of cardstock. Then, the flower and type will be engraved with gold ink. Each invitation will be slightly different and really show a handmade quality.
Finally, the design! I can't wait to see this one printed.
