I have to admit, the words "winter wonderland" don't really conjure up overwhelming feelings of joy for me. Being raised in California never prepared me to fully embrace winter, even when Chicago is blanketed in white wonder. I'm just one of those who prefer a palm tree Christmas, and flip flops over snow boots. So, to survive these five months of cold, I try to take comfort in the simple pleasures of winter. When my eight year old son, Charlie, asked for his hot chocolate with a candy cane stirrer, I was more than happy to indulge his inner Martha Stewart - really, all his idea! (Though I certainly art directed with the cup and vintage saucer) I was pretty impressed by his expression of winter cheer. And, for a few moments, I truly enjoyed the season - because who wants hot chocolate when it's 75 degrees?
