Best thing about Chicago summers? Farmer's Markets. In California, I took for granted that I could stroll through the closed streets, any day of the week, and visit any number of farmer's markets. I would come home with sunflowers and strawberries pretty much any month of the year. But, moving to Chicago, I learned the harsh reality that everything has a season, and farmer's markets are only open when the weather is warm enough to grow. Since growing season is quickly ending, I've been stalking my Andersonville Farmer's market every week, planning my grocery list around it (this week's read: no bread, apples, peaches, broccoli or corn-get at farmer's market!). I have to mention one particular farm that I am so happy to have found: Twin Garden's Farm. NOt only is their corn the best I have ever tasted, thier staff is super sweet, helpful, and their prices are more reasonable than most. But, the most exciting to me was the addition of flowers last week, an array of beautiful wildflowers, that you can name your price. Yes, name what YOU want to pay, either make your own bouquet, or have them do it. They think flowers should be an affordable luxury. How about that. I pulled from these, in the dark:
