For our essence launch at Fleur in October, Mr. Drake created a cocktail that celebrated and included some of the botanicals of the essence. It perfectly captures the scents of El Salvador: And it is SO GOOD- a well balanced cocktail of boozy, citrus and sweet, with smoke from the mescal and topped with a floral note from the orange blossom. There are a lot of steps, I admit. You could leave out the chareau and grapefruit bitters and up the Gin and Mescal to 1 oz. each to simplify.
Agua Libre
3/4 oz. Gin
3/4 oz. Mescal
1/2 oz. Chareau (an aloe vera based liquor made in California)
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz. honey or simple syrup
2 drops grapefruit bitters (optional)
orange blossom water
ground up equal parts dried hibiscus blossoms and seasalt for rim of glass (grind in food processor or coffee grinder until fine)
Prepare the rim of a coupe with lemon juice and dip the rim of the glass into your picture of salt and hibiscus. Mix top 6 ingredients in shaker with ice. strain into coupe. Top with 5 drops of orange blossom water.
