I loved getting to comb through the photos from Stoffer Photography for Anna and Brian's wedding last fall at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. I rarely get to be on site, so seeing the vision that our client's explain to me in our consultations come to fruition, (and beyond, I can only imagine) is so satisfying. And come to fruition this did.
Often times, in trying to achieve a modern, clean look, an art museum wedding can be really simple, understated, and in some cases, void of personality. But Anna and Brian completely avoided this by adding color and fun throughout the decor, from her non traditional short dress from Oscar de la Renta, whimsical accessories, to the richly textured floral design by Event Creative. The hand painted food choice icons leant an air of playfulness into the cotton invitations as did the donut truck at the end of the night.

When painting two different colors that I don't want to bleed together, I paint the items separately, then scan and combine them on screen. That why the chickens are headless!
Not that there wasn't plenty of elegance. The understated decor, silver chairs, simple white lights and crisp linens were in perfect harmony with the expansive ceilings, white walls and floor to ceiling windows of MCA. My favorite details of the day are the warm lighted luminarias forming a pattern at the venue and the table numbers which are named after different artists. Each escort card had the artist's bio on the reverse side for their guests.
Anna's mom, Kristin, gifted the couple with the matching thank you notes with their hand painted laurel. I love that she had the foresight... you are going to write a TON of thank yous, and not just for gifts. It's always a thoughtful touch to send thank yous to anyone who came to the wedding and to your vendors that helped pulled everything together. We helped Anna and her mom come up with wording to help communicate that they weren't having children at their reception: "Due to the size and nature of the event space, we must limit our wedding guests to adults only."
